Maternal Health Program
Supporting pregnant mothers in the Dominican Republic
Designed to address the nutritional and health challenges faced by pregnant women in vulnerable communities of the Dominican Republic, this program combines education, medical support, and the provision of essential resources in biweekly classes to promote healthy pregnancies and reduce the risks of anemia, preeclampsia, and other life-threatening complications. Women in the DRR Maternal Health Program gain practical knowledge, continuous medical follow-up during and after the program, as well as a vibrant community.

Highlights of the DRR Maternal Health Program

Personalized Medical Follow-up
Local medical professionals provide continuous follow-up to participants including anemia checks, blood pressure screens, and blood glucose monitoring

Practical Nutrition Courses
One of the two classes each week focuses on a new healthy recipe tailored to the nutritional needs of pregnant women.

Childbirth Classes
Each week, Dra Santos leads one of the classes discusses important medical information about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care for both mom and baby.

Robust Referral Program
Dra Antonia Santos not only leads the medical portions of the program but uses her connections to local healthcare system to ensure women needing more comprehensive care are referred and seen in a timely manner.

Food Resources
Coordinating with the weekly recipe classes, healthy, fresh vegetables are distributed to each participant (enough to feed their family as well) to supplement their diets.

Vitamin Distributions
Participants are provided with prenatal vitamins and supplementary vitamins without extra hassle.
